Galileo High Accuracy Service has been launched!

The European Commission and EUSPA have formally launched the Galileo High Accuracy Initial Service (HAS) – Phase I. Spaceopal congratulates these European organisations, as well as the Galileo users altogether, for such a milestone.

Following a testing and validation campaign involving different Industry and institutional stakeholders during the last months, the Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS) has started operations in its initial stage.

A Service Notice informing of this setup was published today 24th of January 2023 in the Galileo Service Centre (GSC) website and officially announced by Thierry Breton from the European Commission at the European Space Conference in Brussels.

Spaceopal acknowledges the big effort carried out by the EC and by the EUSPA High Accuracy team, and the Industrial team participating in this project.

Spaceopal itself has contributed to the success of this service declaration through the preparation of the operations at the GSC, the participation in the system reviews and the provision of the Galileo High Accuracy Reference Algorithm and User Terminal (the so-called HAUT receiver), which was key in the validation phase of the service.

Paired with this development, Spaceopal is also evolving its NAVCAST 3PRx receiver to provide another solution to the community for high-accuracy applications.

The Galileo HAS will comprise two services level. The first one is Service Level 1 (SL1), with global coverage providing high accuracy corrections (orbits, clocks) and biases (code and phase) for Galileo E1/E5b/E5a/E6 and E5AltBOC and GPS L1/L5/L2 signals. The second one is Service Level 2 (SL2) with regional coverage providing SL1 corrections plus atmospheric (at least ionospheric) corrections and potentially additional corrections.

In this Initial Phase that begins, a reduced SL1 service is being provided, with orbit, clock and code biases allowing to reach decimetre accuracy in almost all the globe (the full HAS service definition document is available at the GSC website). Additional enhancements in the monitoring network and in the algorithms will enable the introduction of the full SL1 service and, later on, SL2.
